BCU PaddlePower Passport Award

suitable for paddlers age 7(ish) to 14

The British Canoe Union (BCU) have developed a progressive award for young paddlers which aims to improve skills and develop kayaking and canoeing.

Each week, I will work with the young paddlers of the club to cover the skills necessary for the award.

There are loads of tasks, skills and games covered, which can be ticked off on the individual paddlers booklets each week.

The 1* award is a BCU course which teaches and tests the participant in a number of basic kayak and canoe skills throughout the day.

We will look at skills such as controlling the boats in different ways as well as other important factors such as journeying on flat water and the capsize drill.

We should also have time to touch on some 2* skills.

This course is designed for paddlers who haven't paddled that much before and want to have an intensive days paddling to learn and become more confident in kayaks and canoes.

This award is designed for paddlers wishing to learn new skills and improve their paddle ability in both Open Canoes and Kayaks.

This award is a pre requisit for those wishing to do a UKCC Level 1 coaching award. (september)

All are welcome to come and enjoy a paddle on the lake with family and friends at the Lake, followed by a BBQ with Exmoor Canoe Club.

This is a pre requistit for anyone wanting to do the UKCC Level 1 course.

This course teaches and gives you the opportunity to learn and practice safety skills such as throw line uses, boat rescues, hazards and other useful skills that all kayaker and canoeists should know!

After the success of the UKCC Level 1 coaching course we delivered in April with 'Fluid Skills', we are runinng another course!

We're hoping to run a Level 1 as well as a Level 2 course.
